The Vihuela is a 5-stringed instrument, with a vaulted back, for added resonance. It is tuned a-d-g-b'-e'. The Vihuela gives the Mariachi ensemble its unique sound. While it is traditionally used for rhythm and chordal accompaniment, recently musicians have made more clever use of the instrument's capabilities
